Preview of “La Stanza Indaco” (“The Indigo Room”) at the Rome Film Festival, October 2024

On October 27, 2024, at the Cinema Adriano in Rome, the premiere of the film “La Stanza Indaco”, directed by Marta Miniucchi, produced by Genoma Films in collaboration with Emilia Romagna Film Commission, Ministry of Culture and Rai Cinema, was screened in special preview.

Gian Marco Verdone was chosen to create the soundtrack for the film, in collaboration with the artist and producer from Bologna Simone Santi (with whom he already shares the experience of the LEGGERA project).

The film, loosely based on the book of the same name by Costanza Savini and Gianfranco Di Nino, tells the story of the love between two boys who are just a teenager and who live an original, extreme, fantastic experience in an uncommon place. The indigo room is the intensive care unit of the hospital of an important city in the north-central Italy, closely connected to its thousand-year-old and prestigious University.

Here, study, research and excellent medicine are practiced, with international standards, ensuring physical care and psychological and existential well-being of the patient. The patient is treated not (only) for his pathologies, but as a person, with feelings and needs of life and relationships. Even the places have been designed and equipped to guarantee safety and comfort, marginalizing the perception of suffering.

In short, here the humanization of care is practiced, in the sense that the patient comes before the disease. It is Intensive Care, no longer Resuscitation. In this open space, between two boys tested by life and already adults, an unbreakable love can blossom and grow. This story, partly based on a true story, tells it.

The film was presented at the Rome Film Fest, in the “Alice nella Città” section, dedicated to independent cinema. The dates for the Bologna premiere and the start of distribution in theaters throughout Italy will be announced soon.
